Police of Armenia have provided details on the case of a man who killed his elderly mother with an axe, in Tavush Province.

As per the respective police statement, on Friday at around 11am, police received a report that a man had hit his mother with an axe, in Aygehovit village. 

The police arrived at the scene, and they found Osan Simonyan, 89, on the balcony of her house, and drenched in blood.

The woman was still alive, so the officers of the law took her to Ijevan town hospital.

Even though doctors tried to save her life, Simonyan died one hour after being hospitalized.

Subsequently, intelligence officers detained Sargis Simonyan, 61, on suspicion of killing his mother.

According to preliminary information, the mother and son had argued over domestic issues, and the argument had ended in murder.

The axe used in this crime has been found and confiscated.

A criminal case has opened on one count of murder.

An investigation is underway.
