Within the framework of his working visit to Strasbourg, France, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Thursday met with Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland of the Council of Europe (CoE).

Before the start of their meeting, however, a protocol photo and video shoot was held and, subsequently, the PM signed the CoE golden book.

At the ensuing talk, the CoE Secretary General welcomed the democratic changes that are taking place in Armenia since last year. He noted that past December’s snap parliamentary election in the country attests to the Armenian people’s devotion to democracy and human rights, and he said the CoE will continue collaborating with the Armenian government in order to achieve these goals.

The Premier, for his part, expressed gratitude to Jagland for supporting the democratic processes in Armenia. In Pashinyan’s words, the CoE is an important partner to Armenia.

Also, the Armenian PM and the CoE Secretary General conferred on the avenues for making the Armenia-CoE collaboration grow deeper.

Separately, Thorbjørn Jagland underscored the implementation of reforms that are aimed at the strengthening of democracy.

In addition, the interlocutors exchanged views on the ways for settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) conflict, and regional developments.

After their meeting, Nikol Pashinyan and Thorbjørn Jagland made a statement for the media representatives, and responded to their queries.
