The EU and Greece should stop violating refugee rights and fulfill their obligations instead of criticizing Turkey, said FM spokesman Hami Aksoy following Greek FM Nikos Dendias' statements.

Earlier, Dendias said that Turkey undermines security and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean, violates the sovereignty of Libya, Syria, Iraq, and Cyprus. His remarks came at the end of the visit, along with the European Union's chief diplomat Josep Borrell in the town of Kastanies in the Evros region on the border with Turkey. Dendias noted that Turkey was actively sending migrants here to cross the border, but an attempt to blackmail failed.

“Instead of blaming our country, we once again invite the EU and Greece to fulfill their own responsibilities and to respect the rights of asylum-seekers,” Daily Sabah reported quoting Aksoy.

“Attempts to set up evil alliances against Turkey and to use the EU for this aim would not be beneficial for Greece,” he said.

“Instead, they should respect the legitimate rights and interests of Turkey. Instead of solving their problems by complaining about us to others, they should try to solve them by talking to us. This is the requirement of international law and neighborhood," Aksoy said.
