NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has responded during a speech in Brussels to a journalist's question about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's request to admit the country to the alliance as soon as possible, Euronews has reported.

According to Stoltenberg, the consent of all NATO members is necessary for a country to be accepted into the alliance.

According to DW, Stoltenberg also said that "NATO's doors remain open" and that any European country has the right to apply to join the alliance, adhering to the line previously pursued by NATO leaders.

"Our focus now is on providing immediate support to Ukraine, to help Ukraine defend itself against the Russian brutal invasion," he added.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that following today's meeting of the NSDC, Ukraine would apply to join NATO on an expedited basis.
