The German government calls on Turkey to comply with international law during the operation in northern Syria and Iraq and not to exacerbate the already tense situation in the region, German Foreign Ministry spokesman Christopher Burger said at a briefing, TASS reported.

"We call on Turkey to react proportionally and to respect international law. This includes, above all, the need to protect civilians," he said. Reports of alleged civilian deaths in Turkish airstrikes are extremely worrying, Burger noted. "Turkey and all other participants to do nothing that would aggravate the already tense situation in northern Syria and Iraq," he stressed.

After the terrorist attack in Istanbul, the German authorities expressed their solidarity with Turkey and that, according to the investigation, the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) was responsible.

On the night of November 20, Turkey carried out an air operation "Sword Claw" in northern Iraq and Syria, which involved more than 50 aircraft and 20 drones.
