It is clear that the Rome Statute is being ratified not against the Russian Federation, but because of war crimes committed on the territory of the Republic of Armenia by the Azerbaijani side, Armenian Ambassador at Large Edmon Marukyan said in an interview with TASS.

“As for the Rome Statute, as an informed person I can say that a proposal was made to the Russian Federation on this matter, a meeting was held, and the process is underway. It is clear that the Rome Statute is being ratified not against the Russian Federation, but because of war crimes committed on the territory of the Republic of Armenia by the Azerbaijani side. Our Russian partners are well aware of this. These cases should be the subject of international criminal prosecution,” he said.

Edmon Marukyan also commented on the issue of Moscow’s dissatisfaction with the visit of the wife of the Armenian Prime Minister to Ukraine and the Armenian-American military exercises.

“The Foreign Ministry will respond to any notice of complaint in accordance with the relevant procedures. As for the Armenian-American military exercises, they are taking place within the framework of a peacekeeping mission. They were held for the first time in 2011, but even then there were no questions. These are not the first exercises, they are permanent and are held within the framework of peacekeeping missions in which our country participates,” Edmon Marukyan noted.
