We support Armenia's territorial integrity and sovereignty and strong and long-term peace in the region. Mehdi Sobhani, Iran's Ambassador to Armenia, stated this at the forum, on the topic of "New Regional Realities and The ‘Crossroads of Peace,’" being held in Armenia’s capital of Yerevan.

Sobhani expressed confidence that such events can open new opportunities for Armenia and Iran.

According to him, the long-standing ties between these two countries are important for the current development of their relations.

"Our shared border with Armenia is the shortest compared to other countries in the region; but from the point of view of quality, it is one of the best. That border has always been a border of friendship and neighborliness. The two countries have never threatened each other and have always created opportunities for mutual development. The amount of our mutual trade has increased and reaches 1 billion [US] dollars. The [two] countries [have] signed mutually beneficial agreements in the field of energy and infrastructure development," Sobhani noted.

He informed that the potential of developing these relations was also being studied.

"The unblocking of [regional] communications will contribute to the development of relations not only between the two countries, but also between all the countries of the region," noted the Iranian diplomat.

According to him, transit possibilities from India to the Black Sea through Armenia will open a reliable way for the movement of goods to Europe. In this sense, the Iranian ambassador emphasized the importance of India and Armenia in participating in that project.

Sobhani noted that the more transit opportunities countries have, the higher their importance in the world.
