In its Cabinet session Thursday, the Armenian government approved the proposals to sign the agreement on cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia and the Europol (European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation), and the memorandum of understanding on a safe channel between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia and the Europol.

In the rationalization of the respective decision, it is noted that on September 28, 2021, the working agreement on the establishment of cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of Armenia and the Europol was signed, which aims to expand their collaboration in the fight against transnational crime; in particular, illegal drug trafficking, migrant smuggling, cybercrime, asset recovery, money laundering, human trafficking.

The aforesaid cooperation agreement and the aforementioned memorandum of understanding derive from the abovementioned working agreement.

The agreement on cooperation will be the basis for the deployment of a liaison officer from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia to Europol, thanks to which the country’s collaboration and information exchange with Europol will become more operational.

And the memorandum of understanding will be the legal basis for Europol to establish a secure channel for information exchange with the installation of appropriate equipment at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia.
