It is unnecessary to talk about big geopolitical issues. French Minister for the Armed Forces, Sebastien Lecornu, stated this in a joint press briefing with Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan in Yerevan on Friday—and responding to the question whether cooperation with Armenia amid threats from Turkey and Azerbaijan gives France the opportunity to take its place in the area that is historically under Russian influence.

"If Armenia were not in danger, there would have been no need for the current discussions. Therefore, the threats forced Armenia to talk about defense as well. Being a reliable partner, we [i.e. France] have expressed our readiness. There is very serious political support for this cooperation," added the French defense minister.
