Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced that his company's long-awaited fully automated taxi service will launch this summer.

"Tesla Robotaxi unveil on 8/8," the billionaire inventor wrote on X, former Twitter.

But Musk made similar promises about the robotaxi five years ago during Tesla's investor day at the electric car maker's headquarters in Palo Alto, California.

At an event held in April 2019, Musk had told investors that he is very confident that Tesla will have robotaxis on the road as early as 2020.
