The US has deliberately undermined international efforts to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip under the auspices of the United Nations in order to realize its geopolitical interests in the Middle East. Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir-Saeed Iravani, made such a statement.

Iravani made the remarks addressing the UN General Assembly meeting on Palestine in New York on Monday, IRNA reports.

"By playing a destructive role the United States has exhausted the entire arsenal of political and diplomatic devices to prevent the establishment of peace [in Gaza], and deliberately undermined multilateral efforts under the auspices of the UN for the sake of their selfish geopolitical interests in the Middle East region," Iravani stated.

The Iranian diplomat added that after the adoption of the UN Security Council resolution on March 25, which demanded an immediate ceasefire in the Palestinian enclave during the holy month of Ramadan, "the officials of the United States decided to spend all credits and defend the crimes of the [Israeli] regime, by calling this resolution a non-binding one."

Amir-Saeed Iravani noted that the international community "should be taking practical measures to make sure the Israeli war machine would not enjoy impunity to continue its assault on Palestinian civilians."
