One person was killed and several others injured when a Singapore Airlines plane hit "severe turbulence," the airline said in a statement. The London-Singapore flight was diverted to Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, according to a statement posted on Facebook.

“We can confirm that there are multiple injuries and one fatality on board the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. (...) There were a total of 211 passengers and 18 crew on board,” the statement added. Singapore Airlines later said 30 passengers required hospital treatment. Other passengers were treated at the airport for minor injuries.

The airline offered its "deepest condolences to the family of the deceased" and said it was working with Thai authorities to "to provide the necessary assistance," and had dispatched a team to Bangkok “to provide any additional assistance needed.”
