The president of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, in his address at the first session of the country’s new parliament, voiced the "peaceful" goals of the current Azerbaijani authorities.
"The number-one task is the increase of our military power. Although the Second Karabakh War and the antiterrorist operation [i.e. this is what Aliyev calls the Azerbaijani occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh and the ensuing deportation of its 140 thousand Armenians] have remained behind, both the processes taking place in the world, the wars and the heating up of tensions around us, as well as the revanchist tendencies in Armenia force us to constantly pay attention to that to the sector," Aliyev said, APA reports.
According to him, after the 44-day war in Nagorno-Karabakh in 2020, Azerbaijan has considerably increased its military power.
"Armenia and any country standing with it should know that it will be impossible to talk to us [i.e. Azerbaijan] in the language of blackmail and ultimatum. We are ready, we can give any response, and we should always be ready for it," added the president of Azerbaijan.
