The US Senate has confirmed Marco Rubio as the new head of the State Department on Monday.

Earlier on Monday, the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations had voted in favor of President Donald Trump's nomination of Rubio to the position of US Secretary of State and proposed to confirm the senator in this capacity at the plenary session of the upper house of the US Congress.

Republican Party member Marco Rubio, 53, was a member of the Senate since January 2011. He represented the state of Florida in the upper chamber of the US Congress.
