The National Assembly (NA) of Armenia on Tuesday gave its consent, with a vote of 62 in favor none against, to detain Artur Sargsyan, an MP from the opposition “Armenia” Faction of the NA.
Earlier in the day, the NA had unanimously voted also in favor of launching of public criminal prosecution against him.
The court will consider the motion for his being remanded in custody.
The petitions related to Sargsyan and submitted by the Investigative Committee of Armenia are about the charges of preparation of terrorism and usurpation of power by the leaders and participants of the Sacred Struggle movement, in connection with which criminal proceedings have been initiated. Also, audio recordings obtained as a result of secret investigative actions have been publicized in this regard.
