Armenian Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan managed to equate the “problematic” nature of the constitutions of Armenia and Azerbaijan.

During a press briefing after Thursday’s Cabinet meeting of the Armenian government, Galyan was asked about the fact that, in the opinion of experts, Azerbaijan’s constitution contains territorial claims against Armenia.

In response, the minister stated that in this regard there is a certain similarity between the constitutions of Armenia and a number of other countries.

Galyan reiterated the position of the Armenian authorities that the constitution of Armenia does not contain the problems that they like to talk about in Azerbaijan, and that this was confirmed also by the Constitutional Court of Armenia.

According to the logic of the Armenian minister of justice, the problems in the constitution of Azerbaijan that experts point out are similar to what Azerbaijan points out in the constitution of Armenia. And since it is not a problem in the constitution of Armenia, it is not a problem in the constitution of Azerbaijan either if we look at all of this in a mirror image, concluded Srbuhi Galyan.

To note, however, the fundamental difference lies in the fact that Armenia has declared itself as the legal successor of the Armenian SSR, while Azerbaijan has declared itself the legal successor of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, which had existed within the borders of the Armenian territories—including Syunik and part of other provinces of Armenia—it had "acquired" in the early 20th century.
