On October 24, the National Assembly of Armenia, in its second and final reading, approved an initiative by deputies from the ruling “Civil Contract” party to revoke the “Shogakat” TV channel’s access to the public multiplex.

The proposal was supported by 58 parliamentarians, while 11 voted against it.

Amendments to the “On Audiovisual Media” law provide for reducing the number of public broadcasters specified in current legislation from three to two. At the same time, the requirement to include educational and cultural programs will be abolished.

The amendments were proposed by “Civil Contract” party deputies Sisak Gabrielyan and Tagui Kazaryan.
