US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll held talks with Russian officials in Abu Dhabi on Monday, an American official told Reuters, the latter reports.

The meeting took place after US and Ukrainian officials attempted to bring their positions closer on a plan to end the war in Ukraine, agreeing to amend the US proposal, which Kyiv and its European allies had viewed as a list of the Kremlin’s wishes.

The American official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that Driscoll’s talks will continue on Tuesday.

It is not yet clear who is in the Russian delegation.

The Reuters source said that Driscoll will most likely meet also with Ukrainian officials while he is in Abu Dhabi.
