YEREVAN. - One of environmental activists decided to go on eight-day hunger strike protesting against the construction of boutiques in Mashtots Park in Yerevan.

Talking to the Armenian News-NEWS.am reporter, Bayandur Poghosyan said he does not call on the protestors to join him. His main goal is to stop construction in Armenian capital’s downtown, he added.

The activist said that by going on hunger strike he wants to prove that the demonstrators are not that weak and a peaceful protest action can have an outcome. Bayandur Poghosyan will spend the night in the park. Many Armenian renown actors and musicians supportet the civil activists.

Earlier, Armenian opposition Heritage Party MPs and residents of downtown Yerevan’s Mashtots Avenue have submitted an application to the Administrative Court against the ongoing construction at Mashtots Park.
