The United States on Saturday said it was deeply alarmed by the rollback of democracy in Georgia, which Washington said faced a choice between supporting either a "Kremlin-style" foreign agents bill2 or the people's Euro-Atlantic aspirations.

"We are deeply troubled by Georgia's democracy setback," US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan wrote on his microblog at X.

"Georgian parliamentarians face a critical choice - support the Euro-Atlantic aspirations of the Georgian people or pass a Kremlin-style foreign agents law that runs counter to democratic values. We support the Georgian people," he added.

The draft law on foreign agents caused a political crisis in Georgia, where thousands of people took to the streets demanding that the bill be withdrawn.
