I am glad that our shared holiday, the holiday of our peoples who performed the feat of the Soviet Union, unites our peoples and will unite them in the future. Russian ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin told this to reporters Thursday.

"And I think we are not exaggerating when we say that we have saved humanity from a very terrible catastrophe. Why should this be remembered? First of all, because it is a tribute, a tribute to our ancestors. Almost every family has its heroes; those who fought, who gave their lives for our shared victory, who worked behind the scenes for that victory. And that extraordinary feat, that selflessness cannot be forgotten by us.

Second, it is well known that those who do not remember history, do not want to remember its lessons, are at very high risk. History is a good watchdog; it punishes those who ignore its lessons. And today we see how events are developing, how complicated, alarming the situation is.

And what is happening very clearly shows that the experiences and lessons of the war that we remember are very relevant; we face those same problems and dangers, risks. And I think that for many people who may not have understood very well until today what is important to remember, I'm sure that many people are beginning to understand that the lessons learned in those years are very relevant," said the Russian ambassador to Armenia, congratulating everyone on Victory Day.
