YEREVAN. – The petition by Samvel Farmanyan—the ruling coalition’s Republican Party of Armenia MP candidate who is running for a parliamentary seat from the capital Yerevan’s Precinct No.2—against his opposition challenger was rejected.

Farmanyan had filed a complaint against the opposition bloc Armenian National Congress representative Vladimir Karapetyan, claiming that the latter had already commenced distributing election campaign material and thereby was violating the Electoral Code.

The aforesaid Precinct’s Commission Chairman  Gurgen Khachatryan told Armenian News-NEWS.am, however, that Farmanyan’s petition was denied, and again pursuant to the Electoral Code.

“First, it was not clear whether or not it was campaigning. The booklet could not have been apparently considered as campaign material. [And] Even if it were, that does not mean campaigning cannot be carried out beyond the specified term,” Khachatryan noted.
