A fire broke at the Armenian-Georgian border, on Monday at around 3 pm, between the Privolnoye and Tashir mountains, 300 meters from the border toward the Armenian territory.

In an interview with Lori regional correspondent of Armenian News-NEWS.am, the Armenian border guards told that they themselves had put out around 5 hectares, but seeing that the fire was growing rapidly, they had called the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES).

The fire and rescue teams were dispatched to the area at 8:25 pm. The firefighting activities were suspended at 2:10 am, to restart in the morning.

According to Lori regional correspondent of Armenian News-NEWS.am, there was a similar situation on the Georgian side, where the fire had moved into the nearby forest.

On the Armenian side, the fire destroyed hundreds of hectares of dry grass and forest. The local villagers say the devastated area is around 600 hectares.

Ever since the beginning of April, the MES Lori Regional Rescue Service has received 89 such calls.
