VANADZOR. – The Head of Helsinki Citizen’s Assembly Vanadzor Office Arthur Sakunts applied to administrative court demanding to announce the Central Election Committee’s decision as partly invalid. The trial of this case is scheduled for May 4, 2012.

Arthur Sakunts mentioned in his lawsuit that the election ballots do not include the ‘Against all’ line which violates his right of freedom of expression.

“Today there is such a situation in Armenia because of which I cannot fully realize my electoral right.  If I don’t want to vote for any of the nominated parties or candidates then my right of freedom of expression and my right of participating in the government formation process is being violated,” Arthur Sakunts mentioned.

Eight political parties and one block have presented their nominations – Republican Party of Armenian, Prosperous Armenia Party, Orinats Yerkir, opposition Armenian National Congress, opposition Heritage Party, ARF Dashnaktsutyun, the Communist Party of Armenia, Democratic Party of Armenia and United Armenians Party.

For entering the National Assembly, parties must poll over 5% of votes, while blocks - over 7%.

The election campaign will be held till May 5 - the day prior to elections when campaigning is banned. The parliamentary elections will be held from 8 am to 8 pm on May 6, 2012.
