YEREVAN. – Along the lines of the European Conference of Parliament Presidents, Armenian National Assembly (NA) Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan met, on Friday in Strasbourg, France, with OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (PA) President Riccardo Migliori.

Migliori gave a high assessment to Abrahamyan’s address delivered at the Conference, NA press service informs. Also, he condemned the incident involving the Azerbaijani murderer’s extradition to and subsequent release in Azerbaijan, and positively evaluated Armenia’s decision to not withdraw from the negotiation process. In addition, OSCE PA President underscored the need to improve Armenian-Turkish relations and pointed to the role of the parliaments in this regard. Riccardo Migliori also stated that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict must be resolved on the basis of the Madrid Principles.

In his turn, Hovik Abrahamyan noted that Armenia gives emphasis to cooperation with OSCE. He also highlighted that the Armenian side stresses the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs’ mediation efforts toward the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and noted that the foundation for this matter’s solution is the recognition of the right of self-determination of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh and the implementation of this right.

“Armenia is in pursuit of a solely peaceful resolution to the problem and underscores the need to establish mutual trust so as for the negotiations to continue on a constructive path. But Azerbaijan’s demeanor and the latest developments, in connection with the Safarov case, jeopardize the negotiation process and threaten regional stability,” Armenian NA Speaker stated.

During the meeting the parties discussed other matters as well.
