The decision to extradite Ramil Safarov heralded a perfect fiasco of the all-European values and justice, Armenian National Assembly’s Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) delegation member and Prosperous Armenia Party MP Naira Zohrabyan stated addressing the PACE fall session.

In her words, Safarov became an indicator of the bias of European justice and one of Europe’s greatest disgraces. “We are eyewitnesses to how Azerbaijan buys European officials and European parliamentarians with its caviar and petrodollars, [and] some of whom are sitting in this hall and do not feel uncomfortable at all,” Zohrabyan noted expressing a conviction that if the European organizations do not take clear steps against Azerbaijan, they will seriously jeopardize European justice and values.

“I believe it is now clear and comprehensible for everyone that Nagorno-Karabakh can never be a part of a state where a murder committed on national grounds is considered as the greatest heroism rendered to one’s own country,” Naira Zohrabyan said.

According to her, perhaps Azerbaijan can buy Olympic gold medals and allocate an unprecedented ransom for a cowardly monster, but one thing is undeniable: “A country, which has a degraded society that gives birth to and makes a hero out of Safarovs, will deserve the condemnation by the civilized world.”

Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier that Ramil Safarov, a lieutenant in the Azerbaijani military, was extradited on August 31 from Hungary, where he was serving a life sentence—and with no expression of either regret or remorse—for the premeditated axe murder of Armenian lieutenant Gurgen Margaryan, in his sleep, during a NATO Partnership for Peace program in Budapest back in 2004.

As expected, Ramil Safarov’s return to Baku was welcomed, as was his act of murder, by the officials of president Ilham Aliyev’s government and much of Azerbaijani society, and the Azerbaijani president immediately granted him a pardon.

And Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan announced on August 31 that Armenia is suspending its diplomatic ties with Hungary.

Ramil Safarov’s pardoning is condemned by virtually all international organizations.
