Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestling national team will not participate in the World Cup 2010 to be held in Yerevan, February 12-14. According to Vice-President of Azerbaijani Wrestling Federation Namik Aliyev, Azerbaijani sportsmen should get ready for European Championship in Baku on April.

“As for the refusal of the invitation, we want our sportsmen to be well prepared for European Championship in Baku,” Aliyev stated in his interview with Azerisport.

Azerbaijan may be fined for the refusal of participation in the tournament. In this regard, Aliyev said “according to the regulations, we can be fined, but will not be disqualified for the tournament. Most likely they will impose amercement on us,” he outlined.

As NEWS.am reported previously, Greco-Roman Wrestling World Cup 2010 will be held in Yerevan, on February 12-14. Teams from Georgia, Turkey, Russia, Hungary, Iran and Cuba will participate as well.
