Armenian PM Tigran Sargsyan said our country started talks with Turkey to establish diplomatic relations without preconditions on the initiative of President Serzh Sargsyan.

The initiative was supported by the EU, Russia and the U.S., he said in an interview with Russia’s Izvestiya daily, adding that Armenians are trying “to control emotions on the 1915 Genocide.”

“We were seriously pressed by the Diaspora. Armenians of Diaspora opposed the talks and signing of the protocols, but our political image, as a reliable partner, has improved considerably. Now the ball is in Turkey’s court. There are certain people in Turkey willing to build civil society and recognize the Armenian Genocide which was impossible to imagine 20 year ago,” he said.

The Genocide affected each Armenian family, Premier added. “World community must recognize the Armenian Genocide and those responsible must show repentance,” he resumed.
