Even though several months ago the Turkish Aykiridogrular website’s Armenian journalist Cevat Sinet had informed that an Armenian cemetery was being destroyed in the Siirt (Sghert) Province to build a new motorway, this fact did not interest the Turkish authorities in any way. Furthermore, the country’s Culture and Tourism Ministry had stated that the given cemetery did not represent a value for preservation.

Months later, however, residents of the nearby Kayabogaz village showed a concern over the fate of the Armenian skeletons that are scattered all around the aforesaid road. The villagers noted that there used to be an Armenian village in that area, and the graves belonging to the Armenians were destroyed as a result of the road construction and the bones of the dead were spread all around.

As per the villagers, the officials are not interested in these bones, and therefore they are voicing their protest and demanding from the authorities that the bones be transferred and buried in a safe area.
