YEREVAN. – Within the framework of the ArmTech 2012 congress being held at Stanford University in the US State of California, memoranda on cooperation were signed between the Government of Armenia and the leading Information Technology (IT) companies of the United States.

Armenian PM Tigran Sargsyan likewise is attending the aforesaid congress, Government press service informs.

“When I arrived in Armenia, I had no idea that the Information Technology sector was achieving so much success there. The key to Armenia’s future is the creative mind. The US Department of Commerce publicized a study, according to which Armenia is first among CIS countries with the number of applications for patents per capita,” US Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern stated in his welcoming remarks at the event.      

Also along the lines of ArmTech 2012, the Armenian government and Intel company signed a memorandum of understanding on founding a scientific research center in Armenia. Separately, Corporation America company and the Government of Armenia signed a memorandum on establishing a computer chip manufacturing plant in the country. Economy Minister Tigran Davtyan signed the memorandum on behalf of Armenia.        

Subsequently, PM Tigran Sargsyan met with the young Armenian specialists that work at Silicon Valley. The youth informed the Premier that they have joined forces around an initiative, whose objective is to create a network among the young specialists that are engaged in the IT sector. In his turn, Sargsyan instructed the persons in charge at the Enterprise Incubator Foundation to establish contacts with these youth and to strengthen the interaction.
