YEREVAN. – Zhoghovurd daily has learned that the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA) has “closed” the women’s national squad of the country.

“To Zhoghovurd’s questions: ‘Do we not need women footballers? What will be the team’s destiny?’ FFA Spokesperson Arayik Manukyan responded:

‘This year, we did not consider it expedient for the women’s national team to take part in the European championship. [But] there are players who are invited to the [training] camp. We decided not to include the squad in playing in Europe this year, too.’

So, since the national [football] teams [of Armenia] are formed at FFA’s invitation and they [that is, FFA] have decided not to gather a women’s squad to take part in the European games, we can consider the [matter of] women’s national [football] team [of Armenia] to be ‘closed,’” Zhoghovurd writes.
