YEREVAN. – Fifty-three percent of Armenia’s respondents that took part in a recent survey are interested in politics. European Friends of Armenia (EuFoA) NGO presented, during a press conference on Friday, the results of this opinion poll that was conducted ahead of the country’s forthcoming presidential election.

As per EuFoA, TV remains the main source of political information. The role of the Internet is continuously increasing, while that of printed media is going down.

Half of the respondents believe that the situation in the country has improved, whereas the other half is of the view that the situation has not improved as compared to the previous presidential vote five years ago.

Sixty-four percent of the respondents think that the ruling Republican Party’s presidential candidate, incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan did a very good job to improve the country’s situation in the past five years. But those in Armenia with a higher education are not too satisfied by the serving president’s performance.

In addition, 56 percent of the respondents are dissatisfied by the decision of Prosperous Armenia Party not to nominate a candidate for the presidential elections, and 62 percent viewed this decision as “wrong.” But the same decision by the opposition ARF Dashnaktsutyun Party and the opposition bloc Armenian National Congress is criticized mainly by their own supporters.

To note, in the aforesaid opinion poll, 1,607 face-to-face interviews were conducted in all 10 regions (marzes) and 12 communities of Yerevan between 15 and 20 January 2013. The poll was commissioned by EuFoA NGO.
