ISTANBUL. – Following the recent attacks that were made against the Armenians in Istanbul’s densely-Armenian-populated Samatya district, Mayor Mustafa Demir of Istanbul’s Fatih Municipality paid a visit to the district’s Surp Kevork (Saint George) Armenian Church and extended his condolences to the Istanbul-Armenian community. 

Demir visited the church on Sunday, and the local Armenian community representatives briefed him on these assaults. Also, he met with relatives of the victims and extended his condolences, Istanbul’s Agos Armenian bilingual weekly reports.    

Also, Mustafa Demir said they will see to it that the Samatya residents will no longer be concerned for their safety, and stressed that security cameras will soon be installed at Samatya. 

To note, as a result of the recent attacks against elderly Armenian women in Istanbul’s densely-Armenian-populated Samatya district since December 2012, a woman was killed, two others lost one of their eyes, and an attempt was made to kidnap another.
