Council of Europe (CoE) Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland congratulated Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on his reelection.

“I am confident that you will pursue the continuous process of reforms [in Armenia], to which you and your country are already committed. I can assure you that the Council of Europe stands ready to assist you in the implementation of these efforts. I look forward to our future cooperation and Armenia’s forthcoming chairmanship at the CoE Committee of Ministers,” the Council of Europe Secretary General’s respective message specifically states.

NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen likewise congratulated Serzh Sargsyan, and expressed a readiness to continue working with Sargsyan toward developing the NATO-Armenia partnership.

“We have taken note of the preliminary findings of the Observer Mission, which stated that the election was well-administered and characterized by a respect for fundamental freedoms. We welcome the progress made by Armenia since the last elections and trust further steps will be undertaken to address the remaining deficiencies,” the NATO statement, with respect to the Armenian presidential election that was held on February 18, reads.
