Venezuelan Vice President Nicolás Maduro took an oath, before the country’s parliament, as acting head of state.  

He also announced that a new presidential election should be held in the country forthwith.

Pursuant to the Venezuelan Constitution, a new presidential vote must be conducted within thirty days following the president’s death.   

Venezuelan National Assembly President Diosdado Cabello informed that, given the circumstances, the Vice President should become the head of state, АН-online reports. 

But according to Maduro, the worthy candidate shall win the new election. 

Nicolás Maduro also informed that Jorge Arreaza, the Minister of Science and Technology, will assume the duties of the Vice President.
