The Catholicos of All Armenians, Karekin II, on Thursday addressed a message of congratulations to Pope Francis, on his election as the new spiritual leader of the Catholic Church.

“We pray to the Lord that he may make your office fruitful with productive and long-lasting activities.  

We fondly remember our talks with you in Argentina, when we had an opportunity to get to know you as a courageous, wise and a righteous pastor. We happily reflect on your sincere love you show toward the Armenian people.  

The historical relations between our Churches are specified by fraternal warmth. We underscore the progress our Churches have achieved during the period of ours and of our predecessors.  

We pray that these relations enrich further and become decorated with new accomplishments in the interaction of friendship,” the Armenian Catholicos’ message to the new Pope reads in particular.
