YEREVAN. – The physical and mental condition of Istanbul Armenian Murat Nazaryan, who is charged with assaults against elderly Armenian women in Istanbul’s densely-Armenian-populated Samatya district, would not have made it possible for him to carry out such attacks, turkologist Andranik Ispiryan said during a press conference on Saturday.

In his words, considering Nazaryan’s unstable mental condition, his conflicting police testimonies, and the testimonies by the injured parties and the eyewitnesses, one can assume that Nazaryan has actually become a tool in the hands of a group that organized these attacks.

The turkologist also cited Turkish news reporters’ interviews with those that knew Nazaryan and, accordingly, no one believes that he would have resorted to such act.

Andranik Ispiryan also stressed that, with this step, the Turkish nationalists were able to kill two birds with one stone, since attacks were made against Armenian women and an Armenian was charged with carrying them out.
