On April 10, the US administration introduced the 2014 draft budget for Congressional discussions.
In line with the administration’s proposal, the amount of budgetary assistance proposed for Armenia is $30,843,000 as compared to $36,608,000 of the year past. Nonetheless, $30,843,000 is subject to change because this proposal still needs to pass through several US House of Representatives and Senate chambers.
To note, the US administration proposal maintains a balance between the US military allocations provided to Armenia and Azerbaijan; they comprise $2.7 million for the Foreign Military Financing (FMF) and $600,000 for the International Military Education and Training (IMET) programs.
In line with the 2014 draft budget, the planned US economic assistance for Armenia has reduced by $2.5 million—or by 9 percent—as compared with last year’s proposal.
As a rule, the US administration’s draft budgets do not envision any assistance for Nagorno-Karabakh and, instead, this is proposed by the US Congress, for years.
