The construction of the Kars-Tbilisi-Baku railway, which plans to bypass Armenia, is suspended indefinitely, stated Turkey’s main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) MP Ensar Ogut, the local newspapers of the City of Kars report.

The Turkish MP noted that the construction of the Caucasus door is halted, and the Turkish authorities are responsible for this development.

“I ask the Azerbaijani president, the Georgian authorities, and our persons in charge, alike, to hold a meeting, in a short jump of time, and to accelerate the completion of the Kars-Tbilisi railway. The railroad should have opened in 2013, but even the years 2014 and 2015 raise doubts,” Ogut noted, and stressed that once the Kars-Tbilisi-Baku railway opens, the railway freight of Turkey will increase by 20 million tons.
