YEREVAN. – The “Get to Know Yerevan” competition-cycling race will kick off in Armenia’s capital city Yerevan on May 26.

‘“Get to Know Yerevan’ has several objectives. First, the event organizers want to prove that it is possible to go from one point in Yerevan to another on a bicycle, and the city’s geological topography makes this possible.” Event organizer Youth Foundation of Armenia representative Arusyak Poghosyan stated this during a press conference on Saturday.

In her words, this initiative will raise interest toward cycling and, also, bicycles will be used more often in Yerevan as a means of transport.

The next most important component of this cycling event is the uniting of the youth.

“Preserving traditional programs, we are trying to implement new ideas which will further expand the interests of the youth,” Poghosyan noted.

In his turn, “Hayasa” Youth NGO Chairman Suren Mkrtchyan informed that about 300 youth have submitted applications to take part in the “Get to Know Yerevan” competition-cycling race.

Five-member cycling teams will compete in this event. Each team will cycle by five Yerevan sites, but the team members will have to decode the locations of these sites by way of puzzles.
