YEREVAN. – Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan is heading to Yerevan-Sevan highway to meet with the relatives of a soldier killed in the Armenian military unit, spokesperson for the Ministry wrote on his official Facebook.

According to our sources, Police Chief Vladimir Gasparyan has left for the scene, too.

Angered relatives of the killed Lyuks Stepanyan decided to bring the body to Yerevan to learn from Defense Minister the true reasons of his death and hold a protest action near the building of the Armenian government.

On their way to Armenia’s capital they clashed with the policemen, Armenian News-NEWS.am reported from the scene. They damaged police cars preventing them from moving to the capital.

The relatives met with Defense Ministry officials who tried to persuade them to turn back. However, they want to meet the Defense Minister personally.

Lyuks Stepanyan died of a gunshot wound in a shooting in the Armenian army unit. The shooter Davit Khachatrayn has been arrested. Criminal proceedings have been instituted. The investigation continues.
