The Turkish authorities are repairing the 112-kilometer railway that extends to the border with Armenia.

Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) MP Ahmet Arslan, who is elected from the City of Kars which borders Armenia, headed to Turkey’s Catak village to get familiar with the ongoing repair work.

The news reporters asked Arslan whether these repairs are linked to a potential opening of the border with Armenia, the Kars local media report.

The Turkish MP noted that he, just like the local residents, wants for the border to open so that mutual trade may develop.

“But there is a reality. The border will not open as long as the lands of brotherly Azerbaijan are occupied and this problem is not resolved. Just like the citizens of Turkey, the citizens of Armenia likewise want for the border to open. But we want for the Karabakh issue to be resolved and good relations are established between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” the Turkish MP noted.

Ahmet Arslan added, however, that the Kars-Tbilisi-Baku railway is under construction as an alternative to the aforesaid railway.
