Opera legend, world-famous soprano Montserrat Caballé was declared persona non grata in Azerbaijan because of her trip to Nagorno-Karabakh.

Azerbaijan’s Embassy in Madrid filed a note of protest to the Foreign Ministry “on the occasion of opera singer Montserrat Caballé’s visit to the occupied territories of Azerbaijan”, APA reported.

“Montserrat Caballé will not get an Azerbaijani entry visa,” Azerbaijani embassy representatives told Interfax agency.

The embassy said that they had contacted singer’s managers in May, when the concert was announced, to inform about the possible consequences of her trip. “The manages assured that singer will give a concert only in Yerevan and has no plans to visit Karabakh,” APA reports.

As reported earlier, Montserrat Caballé visited Nagorno-Karabakh on June 4 and met with president of the Republic Bako Sahakyan. She also toured the sights and calledKarabakh “a cradle of Christianity.” Later, she arrived in Yerevan where she will give concert on June 9.
