YEREVAN. – Hassan Rouhani, who is the spiritual leader’s representative at the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, already passed the 50-percent threshold in the country’s presidential elections, and therefore there is no need for a runoff.
Iranian Studies specialist Armen Israyelyan told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am.
“By receiving the support of the reformists and of former Presidents [Ali Akbar Hashemi] Rafsanjani and [Mohammad] Khatami, Rouhani, unlike [presidential candidates, Mayor of Tehran] Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and [former FM] Ali Akbar Velayati—who represent the conservative wing—, is in a better position,” Israyelyan noted.
In his words, judging from the current data, Rouhani has a significant advantage over Ghalibaf, who is second at present.
