YEREVAN. – An Armenian company is assembling personal computers—Classmate PCs—for Armenia’s schoolchildren, Microsoft Company’s Armenia Director Grigor Barseghyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The exterior design of these PCs is made especially for children, as they are lightweight but firm, and easy to carry. Microsoft has programmed these computers.

The peculiarity of these PCs is the fact that their keyboards are in Armenian letters. One such computer costs 169,000 drams (approx. $405), but, as per Barseghyan, the market value of its programs alone costs this much.

The first 1,000 Classmate PCs are already assembled.

In Grigor Barseghyan’s view, if a part of the manufacturing processes of these computers is conducted in Armenia, their cost price can significantly reduce.
