YEREVAN. – The new FPL-2012 flight plan format will be installed in Armenia.

The respective agreement in principle was reached with the Central Flow Management Unit of the International Civil Aviation Organization (CFMU ICAO).

The FPL-2012 system will raise the level of flight safety, and ensure flight regularity and compliance with international standards.  

To note, the EUROCAT 1000 automatic control system, which is currently used at the Air Traffic Control Center of Armenia’s capital city Yerevan, is in operation for about eleven years. This system is already out of date, since ICAO and EUROCONTROL have specified additional requirements.      

Until FPL-2012 is installed, however, a digital communication system will be used at the center.
