YEREVAN. – New Iranian president must not be expected to play a crucial role in determining country’s policy, expert on oriental studies Suren Manukyan said.

He recalled that Iranian foreign policy is determined by the spiritual leader and his surrounding.

“The country did not face crucial changes after Rohani was elected. The main indicator is a $4.5-million credit granted to Syria in exchange for a priority on gas transit,” the expert said.

Suren Manukyan pointed at Iraq’s role in the region, adding that Iraq is supplying diesel fuel and repair parts to Syria.

“Over a year, Iraq has been supporting President Assad and even closed border for the Syrian rebels,” the expert noted, adding that Iran and Iraq are foothold of President Bashar Assad.
