YEREVAN. – The important thing is not the acquisition of numerous and expensive weapons, but rather the situation in the country.  

Ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) National Assembly Faction Secretary Hovhannes Sahakyan told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

He reflected on Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev’s recent statements on expanding the volume of military-technical cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan.  

“Ahead of the [Azerbaijani presidential] elections slated for October, Aliyev is attempting to create some situation, send some messages for domestic use; that is why he is speaking about a large amount of weapons,” Sahakyan noted.     

He added that he has been to the Azerbaijani capital city Baku and can say that, except for the city center, the other parts of Baku can be compared with old settlements.

The RPA MP also expressed a view that the entire tumult, which is raised by the Azerbaijani leadership, aims to divert public attention away from the domestic processes.    

“Various factors may impede Ilham Aliyev’s third ‘reproduction.’ That is why ‘fake’ opponents are established which need to ‘attack’ Aliyev,” Hovhannes Sahakyan concluded.
