Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili met with US President Barack Obama, on Monday in New York City, and thanked him for the assistance.  

“I am ending my term as President, and I would like to express great thanks for the cooperation that took place between our two countries,” Saakashvili said during his talk with Obama. 

He added that, aside from politics, he will be engaged in the education sector.

“I plan to open a presidential library in [Georgia’s capital city] Tbilisi,” Novosti Gruzia quotes Saakashvili as saying. 

Also, he asked the US President to continue the assistance provided to Georgia. 

On his part, Obama hailed Mikheil Saakashvili’s contribution to the development of democracy in Georgia  

“You leave behind an important legacy in the form of a democratic and reformed Georgia,” Barack Obama noted.
