Russia’s Culture Minister Vladmir Medinsky said the film about Armenian earthquake may become a global project.

“I accidentally saw a movie script about the earthquake in Spitak. This had no relation to my trip to Armenia,” he said in an interview with Novosti-Armenia.

The Minister noted that he would like to see this film was made together with Armenia, because it was an example of how many states, including the people of the Soviet Union, rushed to help the Armenian nation.

Medinsky recalled that his father is an honorary citizen of Spitak. He commanded the Soviet military unit that worked on the aftermath of the earthquake.

A devastating earthquake struck Armenia’s Spitak city on December 7, 1988.

According to official figures, the disaster claimed 25,000 lives, 19,000 people became disabled, and 530,000 residents were left homeless.
